Adrenaline Summer Weekend |
On Friday 25th June at 6.30pm we set off on the school minibus and headed for our destination of Ganaway Activity Centre. Millisle. The Year 12 pupils had just finished their GCSEs and the Year 11 pupils their Work Experience so we had much reason to relax and have fun. The aim of the weekend was to learn more about God in a relaxed and informal environment and allow pupils the chance to spend time together and build friendships. Our speaker for the weekend was Ruth Lavery, the Youth Worker from Glengormley Methodist, and our worship leader, Paul Grant.
Time was spent throughout the weekend learning about the Bible, doing group activities and worship led by Paul.
On Friday evening after our meeting we journeyed to Bangor for some much needed nourishment.
Much of Saturday was spent on 3 scheduled activities – the indoor climbing wall, the zip line and the high ropes course. Some pupils (and teachers) proved to be braver than others as they dangled from a great height on a tightrope but everyone seemed quite exhausted as we trudged back to our accommodation at the end of the day for a rest. Spirits seemed revived however as the smell of barbequed food filled the air giving us the energy to stay up chatting for much of the night.
As a result breakfast was later on Sunday– especially for the girls!!!!. Another session with Ruth and it was time to tidy up our mess and head for home. Tired and weary we arrived at school glad to be home but sad that the Adrenaline weekend was over for another year.

On Friday 18 June 2010 21 pupils and 3 teachers set off for 5 days to la belle France. First stop Paris, where we visited Montmartre, enjoyed a guided tour and climbed the Eiffel Tower for wonderful views of the city. The highlight of the trip for many was the day we spent at Disneyland Paris.
For the first time this year we spent 2 nights in St Malo Brittany where we had great fun playing beach games (Mr Tornero playing rounders in shorts and vest top not to be missed!), visited the tidal island of Mont St Michel and ate lots and lots of crêpes (not a McDonald’s in sight this year!).
As usual the pupils were a credit to themselves and their families. What a shame Mrs McCalmont was told off by cabin crew for getting out of her seat before the plane had come to a complete standstill and that Mrs McGowan dropped her shoe from a hotel window which every pupil knows should never have been opened for safety reasons!
À bientôt!

Newtownabbey Learning Community Induction Day |
On Friday 18th June a small group of Year 10 pupils, who will be attending Northern Regional College next term, had a 'getting to know you' day at the University of Ulster. All pupils from the Learning Community met their tutors and class mates. They received information on their courses, took part in Ice Breaker sessions and played games after lunch. It is hoped that this Induction session will make the transition to NRC easier for all pupils.
