Salters’ Chemistry Festival
Salters’ Chemistry Festival

A team of 4 Year 8 pupils, Lauren Spencer, Emma McClay, Lee McErlean and Ryan Loughran participated in the annual Salters’ Chemistry Festival at the University of Ulster, Coleraine, on Tuesday 18th May 2010. They competed against other schools in Northern Ireland by completing 2 scientific investigations. A murder had been committed in the Salter’s challenge and the pupils had to investigate who was guilty by analysing various samples which had been collected from the clothes of 5 suspects. The University Challenge involved the pupils making colours to use as paint by mixing chemicals.

The team performed excellently and were outstanding ambassadors for Glengormley High School.

The day ended with a lively talk on “Poisonous Animals”, and a chance to meet some of the deadly and scary creatures – we didn’t venture too close!!!!

Well done to the four aspiring young scientists!!
