The aim of the history course is to allow pupils to acquire knowledge and understanding to allow them to place the present in the context of the past. History is concerned with the actions of people and the significance and consequences of these actions. Historical events cannot therefore be understood without reference to the motives and beliefs of the participants. During their study of history pupils will be introduced to a wide range of historical evidence and to the skills of handling evidence. History is taught to all pupils at Key Stage 3 for 3 periods per week, it is offered as a subject at Key Stage 4 where it is taught for 5 periods per week. At post 16 level AS and A2 History are offered.
