The top five pupils in each form class with the highest Positive Points were chosen to spend the day exploring Belfast Zoo on Tuesday 9th June. Thirty pupils accompanied by Mrs Hulland, Mrs Sames and Miss Whoriskey enjoyed a day in the sun visiting the many different animals. The journey started near the farmyard with the very cute, snoring piglets and the donkeys. This was followed by watching the lively antics of the spider monkeys. Throughout the day we saw many different animals ranging from elephants, giraffes, ostriches to penguins and bears. A friendly peacock seemed to like us and follow us on our travels. Finally, before returning to school safely, we had a picnic lunch in the adventure park. Overall, the day was definitely a Positive end to Year 8.
On Friday evening of the 26th June we set off on our adventure with an aim to spend the weekend relaxing, having fun and learning more about God. The destination this year was Ganaway Activity Centre, Millisle. The Youth Worker from Carnmoney Presbyterian, Michael Wiley, was our speaker and Paul Grant, our worship leader. Several talk and worship sessions were scheduled throughout the weekend.
Late on Friday evening the intense hunger of Mr Ewart forced us to drive to Bangor for some much needed nourishment.
Saturday was a busy but fun day. We spent the morning climbing, both indoors and out, and zooming across the fields on a high zip line. The afternoon also involved climbing but this time it was a huge log ladder and a wooden telegraph style pole which we had to do a Leap of Faith at the top by jumping off. All rather scary!!!!! But we survived, although at times we did wonder if we would. That night, exhausted, we fed our aching bodies some tasty barbeque food.
Sunday was a calmer day and was spent relaxing, before tidying our belongings and making our journey back to school. A fun weekend was had by all!!
On Sunday 21 June 2009 we set off on our annual trip to Paris, this time with the added luxury of a direct flight from Belfast (leaving the pupils, however, with rather too much energy at bedtime!).
As part of their creative music project, Year 9 pupils were given the task of composing, and then performing a rap based on environmental issues. They used "Greengormley" Eco schools as their stimulus.
They had to incorporate four key words in their rap. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Greengormley and it had to last between 30-40 seconds.
